Criminal Charges in Parsippany Court? We can help
Recently, Travis J. Tormey represented a client in the Parsippany Municipal Court in Parsippany, New Jersey. The client was originally charged with fourth degree counterfieting at the Morris County Superior Court in Morristown, New Jersey. This is a fourth degree indictable (felony) offense, punishable by a maximum of 18 months in New Jersey State Prison. The basis for the charge in this case was that the client was allegedly selling fake Louis Vuitton purses for $20.00 or $30.00 per item at the Parsippany Car Show. Everyone knew that the purses were fake, that she had been doing this once a year for 20 years at the same car show, and that she was 65 years old with no prior criminal history, but somehow the police decided to pursue charges against her despite these facts. Moreover, she has children and grandchildren, and this whole incident was extremely upsetting for her.
Fortunately, Mr. Tormey was able to have the fourth degree indictable (felony) charge downgraded to a disorderly persons offense in the Parsippany Municipal Court. Then, Mr. Tormey was able to convince the municipal prosecutor to again downgrade the disorderly persons offense to a local ordinance violation for disturbing the peace, which resulted in a $250.00 fine and no criminal record for the client. Based on the circumstances, this was the right thing to do. It was also a major victory for the Tormey Law Firm. One thing is for sure: next year, the client will not be selling anything similar to Louis Vuitton purses at the Parsippany Car Show.
