Police Catch Man Accused of Not Paying Toll on George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee
Port Authority NJ officers arrested an East Orange man accused of failing to pay the toll on the George Washington Bridge (GWB) in Fort Lee.
The suspect, a 52-year-old East Orange resident, reportedly drove his vehicle through the GWB toll plaza in Fort Lee NJ without paying the required toll.
Since it was the morning rush hour, it’s possible that the suspect did not expect to be noticed by anyone. However, a Port Authority police officer was on foot patrol at the time and did see the suspect.
The Port Authority NJ cop told the suspect to stop his car. Instead of stopping, however, the suspect allegedly hit the gas and tried to drive away.
In his rush to get away, the suspect reportedly struck a concrete divider and caused unspecified damage to his motor vehicle.
Port Authority police eventually caught the suspect and arrested him.
The suspect was then issued multiple traffic citations for eluding law enforcement, toll evasion, and reckless driving.
