Mahwah NJ Priest Accused of Distributing Child Pornography in Pennsylvania
Police officers have arrested a Mahwah NJ priest who allegedly distributed child pornography while vacationing in Pennsylvania this past summer.
The suspect, a 54-year-old Mahwah man who served as a Roman Catholic priest at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Union New Jersey, is accused of uploading child pornography from a computer at his Pennsylvania vacation home.
Wayne County PA law enforcement began to investigate the suspect after learning that he had allegedly used his computer to disseminate the illicit sexual images. Authorities eventually traced the child pornography to an IP address allegedly belonging to the suspect.
The suspect was later placed under arrest by Toms River NJ police, where he was reportedly visiting. The suspect is being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, NJ, where he awaits extradition to Pennsylvania.
The suspect has been charged with numerous sexual offenses, including 40 counts of sexually abusing juveniles, 20 counts of distributing child pornography, and 20 counts of possessing child pornography. The suspect has also been charged with being a fugitive from justice because he reportedly failed to turn himself in to PA law enforcement.
