Florida Man Allegedly Committed Sexual Assault of Young Girl in Ridgewood, NJ
A Florida man was recently apprehended and charged with the sexual assault of a young girl in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
According to Bergen County law enforcement, the suspect committed the sexually assault while he was visiting Ridgewood NJ.
Bergen County police first became aware of the alleged sex crime when the victim’s mom notified Pennsylvania law enforcement. The Pennsylvania State Police subsequently reached out to Bergen County authorities to inform them that a young girl had claimed to be the victim of a sexual assault in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
Detectives with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit then interviewed the victim and looked into the sex offense allegations. While speaking with Bergen County police, the victim reportedly offered details about the sexual acts allegedly committed by the suspect.
The victim was just 11 years old at the time of her alleged victimization by the suspect
The suspect is a 36-year-old male who lives in Orlando, Florida. He faces charges for multiple sex offenses, including aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
If the suspect is eventually convicted on the most serious charges of aggravated sexual assault, he would be in store for significant criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, anyone who sexually assaults a minor who is under the age of 13 can be charged with a first degree crime. A conviction for first degree aggravated sexual assault could lead to a sentence of 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
