Hackensack Man Allegedly Commits Armed Robbery, Sexually Assaults Woman
Police in Hackensack, NJ have arrested a man who allegedly sexual assaulted a woman and robbed her on a city street.
The suspect committed the sex crime and theft offense on November 27, 2015. According to Hackensack law enforcement, the 30-year-old suspect committed the robbery at gunpoint while the 22-year-old victim waited for a friend around the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Grand Street in Hackensack, New Jersey. After robbing the victim, the suspect allegedly committed a sexual assault and then fled the scene on foot.
The victim notified local police a week later. The Hackensack Police Department, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and NJ State Police then worked together on the subsequent investigation.
Investigators were able to identify the suspect after the victim saw him walking near Main Street in Hackensack roughly one month after the attack. She immediately alerted Hackensack detectives.
Police followed up and learned that the suspect lives in Hackensack NJ and works at Teaneck Car Wash. Investigators interviewed the suspect and gathered evidence.
Police later arrested the suspect and charged him with several crimes, including aggravated sexual assault, armed robbery, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Beyond that, the suspect was also charged with possession of marijuana and heroin possession because police officers allegedly found him carrying illegal drugs at the time of his arrest.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was moved to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ. He was being held at the correctional facility in lieu of a $400,000 bail amount.
