Englewood New Jersey Police Find, Arrest Sexual Assault Suspect in Florida

Englewood NJ Aggravated Sexual Assault ChargesA Florida man accused of sexually abusing a young girl in Englewood NJ has been charged with aggravated sexual assault.

The 61-year-old suspect has been accused of engaging in sexual activity with the young victim numerous times. According to officials, the sexual abuse occurred when the victim was between the ages of 9 and 11.

The victim’s father discovered the alleged sexual misconduct when he found Internet communications between the suspect and the victim. The victim’s father then called the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, which launched an investigation into the suspect. The prosecutor’s office was joined in the investigation by the Englewood Police Department.

Englewood NJ detectives conducted an interview with the victim, who by this time was 15 years old. During the interview, the victim reportedly told police specific details of her sexual encounters with the suspect.

Law enforcement then tried to locate the suspect, but had difficult because he had moved away from Englewood, New Jersey. Investigators eventually found him living in Lakeland, Florida.

Englewood police alerted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, which placed the suspect under arrest.

The suspect is now being held by police in Florida while he awaits extradition to Bergen County, New Jersey.

The suspect has been charged with a number of sexual offenses, including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and child endangerment.

If the suspect is convicted of any of the charges, he would face severe penalties. For instance, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a stipulates that an adult who sexually penetrates a victim under the age of 13 may be charged with a first degree criminal offense. A conviction on first degree aggravated sexual assault charges would subject the suspect to a sentence of 10–20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
