Essex County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Information on Violent Home Invasion in Millburn

A nanny cam captured a brutal beating of a young mother during a home invasion in Millburn.

Last week, a young mother was playing with her daughter and watching television in their Millburn home when a large man kicked-in the dead-bolted front door. As captured on video, the man rushed into the living room and began pummeling the screaming mother as the woman’s daughter looked on.

The man punched the woman in the face more than a dozen times before heading upstairs. The woman stumbled to her feet and attempted to follow the man upstairs, where her other young daughter was sleeping.

The intruder quickly rushed down the stairs and punched the woman in the face again, knocking her to the ground and causing her to strike her head on the corner of a wooden table. The intruder then grabbed the woman by her hair and slammed her face into the table. The man then calmly asked the woman to get her pocketbook. When the disoriented woman didn’t respond, he threw her against a wall. The remainder of the video shows the man kicking the woman in the face and repeatedly punching her.

Before finally leaving the house through the front door, the man picked up the woman and threw her down the basement stairs. He made off with jewelry from the home.

The woman was taken to the hospital for injuries to her face and leg. She was diagnosed with a concussion.

If arrested, the intruder is likely to be charged with aggravated assault and burglary.

The penalties for burglary in New Jersey are set forth in N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2. Because the victim was seriously injured during the burglary, the intruder may be charged with a second degree felony. As a result, the intruder could be looking at a sentence of up to ten (10) years in New Jersey State Prison.

The Essex County Sheriff’s Office has offered a reward for any information that leads to the arrest of the intruder. The man has been described as a 5-foot-11 black man who weighs 220 pounds and has a salt-and-pepper beard. Anyone with information about the man is encouraged to contact the Millburn Police at (973) 564-7001.
