Ridgewood NJ Man Allegedly Committed Sex Crimes While Serving as Teen Gymnastics Coach
A man who lives in Ridgewood NJ man was arrested and charged with sexual assault stemming from alleged incidents more than 20 years ago.
The suspect, a 54-year-old Ridgewood resident, worked as a gymnastics coach at the Eastern Gymnastics Academy in the early 1990s. During that period of time, the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted one of his female gymnasts.
According to prosecutors, the abuse occurred at gyms and homes located in Cranford and Mays Landing, New Jersey.
Roughly nine months ago, the victim wrote a detailed letter to the NJ State Police and brought the alleged abuse to the attention of law enforcement. The Union County Prosecutor’s Office and the Cranford Police Department started to investigate the suspect and eventually placed him under arrest.
The suspect faces criminal charges for aggravated sexual assault. If he is convicted of the sex crimes, he could potentially be sentenced to decades behind bars. Beyond that, he would be required to register as a convicted sex offender under Megan’s Law.
