Ex-Priest in Bergen County Accused of Distributing Child Pornography
A man who formerly served as a priest in Bergen County New Jersey faces very serious criminal charges in Pennsylvania. According to PA authorities, the suspect distributed child pornography and possessed child pornography.
Kevin Gugliotta is a 54-year-old man who previously worked as a priest at both Immaculate Conception RC Church in Mahwah and Holy Spirit RC Church in Union, NJ. His work history with the NJ churches was reportedly found on his LinkedIn page.
Monroe County PA detectives began their investigation after learning that someone had used the suspect’s IP address to access the Internet and upload illicit sexual images of minors to an online chat room.
Detectives eventually got a search warrant for the suspect’s vacation home, where they found the suspect’s laptop computer. A search of the computer reportedly turned up numerous videos and images of child pornography.
Gugliotta has been charged with a number of sex crimes, including 20 counts of disseminating child pornography and 20 counts of possessing child pornography.
Gugliotta was recently arraigned in a Pennsylvania court. Depending on how pre-trial hearings to, and depending on whether PA prosecutors decide to offer Gugliotta a plea deal, he may have to stand trial on the sexual offense charges.
While awaiting resolution of the case, Gugliotta is being held the Wayne County Prison on a bail amount of $1 million.
