Bogota NJ Man Headed to Prison, Pleads Guilty to Distribution of Child Pornography
A Bogota NJ man is on his way to prison for some time after he admitted to distributing child pornography.
According to Bergen County prosecutors, the suspect uploaded child pornography to the Internet by using file-sharing software that could be accessed by other people.
Bogota police received a tip about the suspect and subsequently conducted a joint investigation with Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office detectives. Law enforcement eventually got a search warrant for the suspect’s Bogota home. During the search, detectives allegedly came across numerous child pornography videos on the suspect’s computer. A few of these videos reportedly showed images of children being raped by adults.
The suspect, a 70-year-old Bogota man, was arrested and charged with the sex crime of distribution of child pornography.
After being indicted by a grand jury, the suspect was set to stand trial on the sex crime charges in Bergen County Superior Court. The suspect avoided trial by arriving at a plea agreement with Bergen County NJ prosecutors. The prosecutor’s office agreed to recommend a sentence of just four years in prison – as opposed to 10 years in prison – so long as the suspect pleaded guilty to distribution of child pornography.
When the suspect is ultimately released from prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
