South Hackensack NJ Police Search for Suspect in Murder of Local Business Owner

South Hackensack Homicide AttorneysThe Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance with the investigation into the murder of a South Hackensack NJ businessman.

Authorities believe that the 51-year-old victim was shot and killed somewhere in South Hackensack NJ in April 2015. Two police officers came across the victim’s body while conducting a welfare check in the area of Clean Sweep Chimney Depot on Route 46 West in South Hackensack, NJ. At the time that police found the body, it was reportedly covered in blood, with a pool of blood all around it.

The victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Bergen County medical examiners later got a hold of the body and performed an autopsy. According to the coroners, the victim died due to gunshot wounds.

The South Hackensack Police Department is currently investigating the fatal shooting. Investigators interviewed witnesses near the location at which the shooting may have occurred. Investigators also obtained video surveillance footage from the neighborhood.

Despite the best efforts of Hackensack police, they have yet to identity a suspect or a motive for the fatal shooting. The police recently turned to the public for help with the investigation.

If police are eventually able to determine the identity of the individual who shot and killed the victim, homicide charges would like follow. Murder is the most serious offense listed in the New Jersey Criminal Code. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, first degree murder charges carry a potential punishment of life imprisonment, with a mandatory minimum term of incarceration of 30 years in state prison. Other first degree felonies typically carry a potential sentence of 10-20 years in NJ State Prison.
