Florham Park NJ Police Investigating Several Car Thefts and Burglaries

Last week, Florham Park NJ police reported that a Mercedes Benz and a Rolex were stolen and four (4) cars were broken into in the borough.
The Mercedes Benz, an S55 model valued at $80,000.00, was parked at the Brooklake Country Club when it was taken. According to Florham Park police, the driver had left his key fob in the car.
Several other car burglaries occurred in Florham Park. Police responded to a report of a car burglary at 123 Columbia Turnpike. The driver told police that he had parked his black 2012 Audi A6 in the parking lot and that, when he returned, all four (4) of his windows were completely down and his iPhone and leather briefcase were missing.
Later that day, an officer went to a Brooklake Road home in response to a car burglary report. At the scene, a man told the officer that a suspicious car was seen in the area. According to police, nothing was stolen.
That night, Florham Park police responded to yet another report of a robbery at the Brooklake Country Club. A man indicated that he had parked his 2012 Mercedes CLS in the parking lot, only to return later and find that it had been broken into. The man told police that a bag was missing from the car’s trunk. The bag contained a $25,000.00 Rolex watch and an expensive pair of dress shoes.
In New Jersey, auto theft is addressed by N.J.S.A. 2C: 20-3. As set forth by the statute, theft of an automobile by unlawful taking is, at a minimum, a third degree felony. If any of the suspects are caught and convicted of third degree auto theft, they could be sentenced to up to five (5) years in New Jersey State Prison.
