Dumont Police Seek Leads on Man Accused of Groping, Sexually Assaulting Female Pedestrian

Dumont NJ Sexual Assault AttorneysDumont authorities are seeking information on a man who has been accused of assaulting and groping a female pedestrian.

According to Dumont police, last week a short Hispanic man approached a woman late at night as she walked on East Madison Avenue near its intersection with Thompson Street. The man is accused of assaulting and groping the woman.

After the assault, the man fled on foot down East Madison Avenue.

Witnesses described the man as between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a form-fitting black shirt, dark-colored pants, and a New Jersey Devils hat.

Depending on the circumstances, the assailant could face criminal sexual contact charges. In New Jersey, criminal sexual contact is a very serious offense. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3b, criminal sexual contact is a fourth degree felony. If convicted of fourth degree criminal sexual contact, the offender could be sentenced to up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
